An American aerospace engineer and a member of the Cherokee Nation, a great-granddaughter of Cherokee Chief John Ross. Hired by Lockheed as a mathematician in 1942, she was the only woman among the forty founding engineers of Lockheed's Skunk Works advanced-development program in 1952, contributing preliminary design work on the Agena rocket and early concepts for interplanetary spaceflight.
