Liang Sili was a Chinese aerospace engineer, born in Beijing, who joined the Fifth Institute of the Ministry of Defense in 1956 to work under the renowned engineer Qian Xuesen, eventually serving as deputy director of the institute's Research Office of Missile Control Systems. Over a career spanning more than half a century, Liang played an important engineering role in the design of several of China's foundational missile and launch vehicle programs, including the Dongfeng 2A and Dongfeng 5 ballistic missiles and the Long March 2 and Long March 3 orbital launch vehicles. He was elected an academician of the International Academy of Astronautics in 1987 and of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1993, and served as a vice president of the International Astronautical Federation beginning in 1994, recognition of a career that helped build China's independent missile and space launch capability.
