Indian aerospace engineer who led the team that developed India's first satellite launch vehicle, SLV-3, successfully placing the Rohini satellite into orbit in 1980. He went on to direct India's ballistic missile development program, earning the nickname Missile Man of India, before serving as the eleventh President of India from 2002 to 2007.
