A combined observatory and research complex built in the 1570s on the island of Hven, then part of Denmark, for the astronomer Tycho Brahe, whose naked-eye positional measurements made there were the most precise achieved before the invention of the telescope. Its data later underpinned Johannes Kepler's laws of planetary motion.
