An optical observatory in Punjagutta, Hyderabad, India, established in 1908 under Nawab Zafar Jung Bahadur of the House of Paigah and named for Mahbub Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VI, the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, with which it became affiliated as Osmania University's observatory. Equipped with an 8-inch Cooke astrograph and a 15-inch Grubb refractor, it took part in the international Carte du Ciel project, and together with its Japal-Rangapur field station it catalogued nearly 300,000 stars.
