A United States federally funded research center for solar physics, headquartered at the University of Colorado Boulder and established in 1984 to operate a network of solar telescopes under the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy. Its sites include Sunspot, New Mexico, with roots reaching back to 1947 to 1949; Haleakala, Hawaii, home to the 4-meter Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope; and Big Bear Solar Observatory in California, alongside six worldwide stations of the Global Oscillation Network Group that together provide continuous observation of the Sun.
