The University of Cambridge's radio astronomy field station near Cambridge, England, whose One-Mile and later arrays developed under Martin Ryle and Antony Hewish pioneered the aperture-synthesis imaging technique that underlies most modern radio telescopes. Antony Hewish and his student Jocelyn Bell Burnell used its instruments there to discover the first pulsar in 1967.
