A British radio astronomy observatory in Cheshire, England, home since 1957 to the Lovell Telescope, a 76-meter fully steerable dish that was the largest of its kind in the world at completion and tracked the Soviet Sputnik and early American and Soviet spacecraft. It anchors the European VLBI Network of linked radio telescopes and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
