An astrophysical observatory near the village of Nauchnyi in Crimea, established in 1945 and among the world's most prolific sites for minor planet discovery, credited with roughly 1,286 numbered minor planets found between 1966 and 2007 by astronomers including Lyudmila Chernykh, Nikolai Chernykh and Tamara Smirnova. Its instruments include the 2.6-meter Shain telescope and the 1.22-meter AZT-11 reflector, and it has published its own bulletin since 1947, in English since 1977.
