Indonesia's oldest astronomical observatory, founded in 1923 near Lembang on the island of Java through the philanthropy of the tea planter Karel Albert Rudolf Bosscha and now operated by the Bandung Institute of Technology. It remains the principal center of professional astronomy in Southeast Asia.
