The Emirates Mars Mission, known by its probe's name Hope (Arabic: Al-Amal), is the United Arab Emirates first interplanetary mission, launched in July 2020 and placed into Mars orbit on February 9, 2021. It made the UAE the first Arab nation and the fifth nation overall to reach Mars, and only the second to enter Mars orbit successfully on its first attempt. The probe carries three instruments studying the Martian atmosphere's temperature, dust and water-ice clouds, and atmospheric escape, from a wide orbit chosen to capture Martian weather across all times of day.
