Dawn was a retired NASA space probe launched in September 2007 to study two of the three known protoplanets of the asteroid belt, Vesta and Ceres, operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The spacecraft depleted its hydrazine fuel and the mission was ended on November 1, 2018, leaving the derelict probe in a stable orbit around Ceres.
