Chandrayaan-1 was the first Indian lunar probe, part of the Chandrayaan programme operated by the Indian Space Research Organisation. Launched on October 22, 2008 aboard a PSLV-XL rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, the orbiter and impactor mission entered lunar orbit on November 8, 2008 and operated for 312 days, detecting the presence of lunar water among its primary scientific findings.
