A small, all-solid-fuel American launch vehicle developed by NASA for inexpensive access to orbit for lightweight scientific satellites, notable as the first orbital rocket assembled entirely from solid-propellant stages. It flew from 1960 into the early 1990s from launch sites on three continents.
