The Soviet Union's answer to the Saturn V, a super heavy-lift rocket intended to carry cosmonauts to the Moon. All four test flights, between 1969 and 1972, ended in failure before reaching orbit, and the program was cancelled in 1974 after the U.S. had already won the crewed lunar race.
