Saiph is a blue supergiant star and the sixth-brightest star in the constellation Orion, carrying the designations Kappa Orionis and 53 Orionis and marking the southeastern corner of Orion's main quadrangle of bright stars. Parallax measurements place it about 650 light-years from the Sun, and though it is smaller and less luminous than Rigel it is hotter at its surface, with an apparent magnitude of about 2.1 that varies only slightly.
