The Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters and catalogued as Messier 45, is an open star cluster of young, hot B-type stars in the constellation Taurus. At a distance of about 444 light-years it is among the nearest star clusters to Earth and the closest Messier object to us, making it the star cluster most easily seen with the naked eye anywhere in the night sky. It contains over 1,000 stars in total, with its brightest six or seven members visible without any optical aid.
