Mira is a binary star system in the constellation Cetus, carrying the Bayer designation Omicron Ceti, made up of a pulsating variable red giant, Mira A, together with a white dwarf companion. Mira A was the first non-supernova variable star ever discovered, aside from the possible earlier case of Algol, and it gives its name to the entire class of long-period Mira variable stars; the system lies about 300 light-years from Earth.
