Messier 94, also known as M94, the Cat's Eye Galaxy, the Croc's Eye Galaxy or NGC 4736, is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici, discovered by Pierre Mechain in 1781. It lies roughly 16 million light-years from Earth and is known for a bright, tightly wound inner ring where intense star formation is taking place, encircled by a fainter, more diffuse outer disk.
