Messier 62, also known as M62 or NGC 6266, is a globular cluster of stars in the constellation Ophiuchus, discovered by Charles Messier in 1771. It lies roughly 22,200 light-years from Earth and is notably asymmetric in shape for a globular cluster, an effect attributed to its proximity to the Galactic Center distorting it through tidal forces.
