Messier 58, also known as M58 or NGC 4579, is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Virgo and a member of the Virgo Cluster, discovered by Charles Messier in 1779. It is one of the brighter galaxies in the cluster, lies roughly 62 to 68 million light-years from Earth, and hosts a central supermassive black hole along with an active galactic nucleus.
