The Carina Nebula, also known as the Eta Carinae Nebula and catalogued as NGC 3372, is a large complex area of bright and dark nebulosity in the constellation Carina, discovered by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in 1752. It lies approximately 8,500 light-years from Earth in the Carina-Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way.
