Caldwell 24, also known as Perseus A or NGC 1275, is a galaxy at the core of the Perseus Cluster of galaxies in the constellation Perseus, discovered by the French astronomer Edouard Stephan in 1875. It lies roughly 230 million light-years from Earth, hosts an active supermassive black hole, and is threaded with filaments of glowing gas extending from its disturbed, peculiar structure.
