Alnilam is the central star of Orion's Belt in the constellation Orion, carrying the Bayer designation Epsilon Orionis. It is a massive blue supergiant star roughly 1,250 light-years away, estimated to shine some 270,000 times as luminous as the Sun and to carry about 28 times the Sun's mass.
