Albireo is a multiple star system designated Beta Cygni in the constellation Cygnus, its name used by the International Astronomical Union specifically for the brightest star in the grouping. To the naked eye it appears as a single third-magnitude point of light, but even a low-magnification telescope resolves it into two components with a striking color contrast, a brighter yellow star, itself a close trinary system, paired visually with a fainter blue companion.
