4179 Toutatis is an elongated, stony, slowly rotating near-Earth asteroid of the Apollo group and a potentially hazardous asteroid, about 2.5 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered by the French astronomer Christian Pollas at Caussols in 1989 and named after Toutatis, a protector god of Celtic mythology.
