Valery Kubasov was a Soviet cosmonaut and engineer who flew three spaceflights, including the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, the first joint crewed spaceflight between the United States and the Soviet Union, on which he served as flight engineer aboard the Soviet Soyuz spacecraft that docked with the American Apollo capsule. He later commanded an Interkosmos mission in 1980 that carried the first Hungarian cosmonaut, Bertalan Farkas, to the Salyut 6 space station.
