Samantha Cristoforetti is an Italian European Space Agency astronaut and former Italian Air Force pilot who became the first Italian woman to fly in space, launching to the International Space Station in 2014 for a mission that set a record at the time for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. She returned to the station on a second long-duration mission in 2022, during which she became the first European woman to command the space station, leading Expedition 68.
