Philippe Perrin is a French astronaut and test pilot who holds the rank of Colonel in the French Air Force and has logged over 2,500 flying hours across more than 30 aircraft types. Selected as an astronaut candidate by CNES in July 1996, he trained at NASA's Johnson Space Center and flew his only spaceflight, Space Shuttle mission STS-111, in June 2002, performing three spacewalks totaling over 19 hours during a mission that delivered a Canadian built mobile base to the International Space Station and repaired the station's robotic arm. He transferred to the European Space Agency in December 2002 but did not fly again, leaving the European Astronaut Corps in 2004 to become a test pilot for Airbus.
