Naoko Yamazaki is a Japanese engineer and JAXA astronaut who flew aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery mission STS-131 in April 2010, a resupply flight to the International Space Station. Her mission briefly brought a record number of women, four, into space together at the same time, alongside fellow crew members and station residents. Yamazaki has since become an active public advocate for expanding womens participation in space exploration and science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields more broadly.
