Marco Sieber is a Swiss astronaut and medical doctor who earned his medical doctorate from the University of Bern in 2015, specializing in robotic surgery, with additional training in emergency and rescue medicine. Before his space career he served as a paratrooper in the Swiss Army's Special Forces Command and worked as a doctor in general surgery, intensive care, anesthesiology, emergency medicine and urology, including as chief medical officer for a NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo. He was selected as part of the European Space Agency's 2022 astronaut group, graduated from basic training in April 2024, and anticipates his first International Space Station mission between 2027 and 2030, which would make him the second Swiss person in space after Claude Nicollier.
