Mamoru Mohri is a Japanese chemist who became the first Japanese citizen to fly aboard the Space Shuttle, serving as a payload specialist on a 1992 mission carrying Japanese scientific experiments. He flew a second Shuttle mission in 2000. Mohri later became director of the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Tokyo, using his prominence as an astronaut to promote public science education in Japan.
