Luca Parmitano is an Italian European Space Agency astronaut and former Italian Air Force pilot who has flown two long-duration missions to the International Space Station. During his second mission he became the first Italian to command the space station, leading Expedition 61. On a 2013 spacewalk during his first mission, a malfunction in his spacesuits cooling system caused water to leak into his helmet, a serious in-flight emergency that forced an early end to the spacewalk and is widely documented as one of the closest calls in space station operations.
