John Herrington is an American former United States Navy aviator and NASA astronaut who became the first enrolled member of a Native American tribe, the Chickasaw Nation, to fly in space, aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour mission STS-113 in November 2002. During the mission he performed three spacewalks to help continue assembly of the International Space Station, and he carried a Chickasaw Nation flag with him into orbit.
