Frank Borman was an American NASA astronaut and United States Air Force officer who commanded Gemini 7 in 1965 and Apollo 8 in December 1968, the first crewed mission to leave Earth orbit and travel to the Moon. The Apollo 8 crew became the first humans to see the far side of the Moon and famously read from the Book of Genesis during a Christmas Eve television broadcast watched around the world. Borman left NASA after Apollo 8 and later served as chief executive of Eastern Air Lines.
