Donn Eisele was an American NASA astronaut and United States Air Force officer who served as command module pilot on Apollo 7 in October 1968, the first crewed flight of the Apollo program following the fatal Apollo 1 fire. The eleven-day Earth-orbit mission successfully tested the redesigned Apollo spacecraft and restored confidence in the program ahead of later crewed lunar missions. It was Eiseles only spaceflight.
