Anna Fisher is an American physician and NASA astronaut who flew aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery mission STS-51-A in November 1984, during which the crew retrieved and recovered two malfunctioning communications satellites for return to Earth, an unusual and technically demanding operation. Fisher was the first mother to fly in space, and after her only spaceflight she spent many years working within NASAs astronaut office and space station program before returning briefly to active astronaut status decades later.
