Alexei Yeliseyev was a Soviet cosmonaut and engineer who flew three missions between 1969 and 1971, including Soyuz 5, on which he performed a spacewalk to transfer between two docked Soyuz spacecraft, part of the first crew transfer of its kind. He later served as flight engineer on Soyuz 8 and Soyuz 10, and after his flying career he held senior leadership roles within the Soviet space program, including at the design bureau responsible for Soyuz and Salyut spacecraft development.
