Rocket Factory Augsburg is a German NewSpace startup headquartered in Augsburg that develops small satellite launch vehicles and related spacecraft, founded in August 2018 with the stated aim of building rockets much as cars are built on a production line. Its main vehicle, RFA One, is a three-stage rocket designed to carry small satellites weighing up to 1,300 kilograms into polar and sun-synchronous orbits. A static fire test of the RFA One first stage on August 19, 2024 resulted in a fire, explosion and loss of the stage, with significant damage to the launch mount, postponing the vehicle maiden flight to 2025. The company employs more than 300 people from over 45 countries and holds exclusive access to Launch Pad Fredo at the SaxaVord Spaceport in the Shetland Islands of Scotland.
