Planet Labs PBC, known as Planet, is a publicly traded American Earth-imaging company based in San Francisco, California, whose goal is to image the entirety of the Earth daily to monitor change. The company designs and manufactures small 3U CubeSat satellites called Doves, each carrying a telescope and camera, launched in large numbers as secondary payloads on other rocket missions; by September 2018 it had launched nearly 300 satellites, of which about 150 were active. The images gathered support climate monitoring, crop yield prediction, urban planning and disaster response, and are supplied under contract to agencies including NASA, NOAA and other parts of the US government. Planet became a public company in December 2021 through a merger with a special-purpose acquisition company, listing on the New York Stock Exchange.
