Bigelow Aerospace was an American space design and manufacturing company, based in North Las Vegas, Nevada, that developed expandable space station modules before ceasing operations in 2020. It was founded by Robert Bigelow in 1998 and funded largely through his ownership of the hotel chain Budget Suites of America. The company built two unmanned free-flying prototypes that flew in 2006 and 2007 and later attached an expandable module to the International Space Station. By 2013 Bigelow had invested 250 million dollars in the company, but in March 2020 it laid off all 88 of its employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, and as of January 2024 it remained dormant and was considered defunct.
